Court remands prophet for defiling minor in EkitiAn Ekiti State Chief Magistrate Court, sitting in Ado Ekiti, has granted an order to remand a 45-year-old Prophet Adeleye Akingbaso in the Nigeria Correctional Centre, Ado Ekiti, for allegedly defiling a thirteen-year-old girl.According to the charge, Prophet Adeleye Akingbaso was reasonably suspected to have committed an offence of rape on a thirteen-year-old girl, at Ajowa Area of Ado Ekiti on 25th July, 2022.In her statement to the Police, the victim said, “the Prophet is my mother’s man-friend, he used to sleep in our house, on that day, my mummy left for night duty but the Prophet slept in our house. At midnight, he woke me and said I had bed wet, I said no, he gave me shea butter and salt to rub my private part, I did as he directed, when I woke on the second day, I saw him beside me and discovered that I have been raped, he warned me not to tell anybody because I will run mad.“He came back on the third day, he said, he wanted to renew what he gave me earlier by having sex with me, I ran out of the house and inform our neighbours, they called my mother and narrated what happened to her, he was arrested and handed over to the Police”, she concluded.Requesting the remand order, the Police Prosecutor, Inspector Bamigbade Olumide said, granting the order will allow Police complete their investigation and forward the duplicate case file to office of Director of Public Prosecutions for legal advice.In his ruling, Magistrate Olu Bamidele said, the defendant is ordered to be remanded at the Nigeria Correctional Centre, Ado Ekiti pending issuance of legal advice by the Director of Public Prosecutions.The case has been adjourned till 29th September 2022 for mention.
EWI OF ADO CLEARS AIR OVER MISCONCEPTION ABOUT UDIROKO FESTIVALThe Ewi of Ado-Ekiti, Oba Adeyemo Adejugbe has dispelled the insinuations that the celebration of Udiroko festival is Idolatry.The monarch during a news confrence to herald the 2022 edition of the festival said Udiroko marks the first day in the Ado Ekiti calendar.He explained that the event symbolizes the first meeting held by the ancestors of Ado when they assumed the town after a long journey from Benin where they migrated.The monarch cautioned people against misinformation about the day but called for necessary support to enable it attract international recognition.Oba Adeyemo noted that this year’s udiroko festival would be celebrated in a usual way.The monarch noted that the Festival, which would be celebrated in the Palace on Sunday, 21st August, 2022, had from time immemorial brought unity, love and peace among the citizenry of Ado Ekiti.The traditional ruler said the festival had served as a platform for the indegenes of Ado Ekiti to brainstorm on how to develop the state capital.Speaking on security, Oba Adeyemo assured that maximum security would be provided to ensure hitch free programme.Ewi thereby called on all Ado Ekiti residents to live in peace and harmony among themselves.Meanwhile the monarch has appealed to both the Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities ASUU to reach a compromise on the current impasse and ensure reopening of schools.
FAYEMI MOURNS IBB’S EX-SPOKESMAN, DUROEkiti State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi has expressed condolences on the death of the former Chief Press Secretary to ex-military Head of State, Ibrahim Babaginda, Chief Duro Onabule who passed on yesterday, aged 83 years.Dr Fayemi, in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Yinka Oyebode, described Onabule’s death as exit of a great Nigerian who was passionate about the Nigerian nation as well as the journalism profession.The Governor described the late Onabule as a frontline journalist who made positive contribution to the development of the media industry and a presidential spokesman who brought glamour to the office of Chief Press Secretary.Dr Fayemi said the London School of Journalism-trained veteran was a source of inspiration to many journalists as well as readers of his very insightful columns on public discourse.Commiserating with the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE), the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), and the management of the Nigerian Television Authority, (NTA) the Chairman of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum (NGF) stated that Onabule’s death is a great loss to the upcoming generation of journalists who could have learnt a lot from him.“Chief Duro Onabule was a great and patriotic Nigerian who rose to national prominence through his journalistic work as a celebrated Editor of the now rested National Concord and later as CPS to ex- President Ibrahim Babaginda.” Chief Onabule as a journalist and public affairs commentator spoke truth to power through his illuminating writings.“Having trained at the popular London School of Journalism, one could not expect less than the professionalism which Onabule plied his trade in the media industry. His professionalism, diligence and hard work took him to the very top in his field, serving the former military Head of State, Gen. Get N50,000 If You Expose Kidnappers – Akeredolu Tells ResidentsPosted by Thandiubani on Wed 17th Aug, 2022 The governor said government would protect anybody who reports or gives useful information about criminal activities in his area. Residents of Ondo state have been promised N50,000 for anyone who provides information that will lead to capture of kidnappers and criminals in the state. Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu made the promise through Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Mrs Bamidele Ademola-Olateju, after the weekly State Executive Council. He explained that the move was aimed at encouraging citizens to give useful and timely information about criminal activities in any part of the state. “From now on, anyone who reports a crime and we follow the trail, and it leads to a successful prosecution of the criminal, that person will be offered a reward of N50,000. “We want people in Ondo state to say something when they see something. We want our people to be proactive in the area of security to rid Ondo State of criminals, bandits and terrorists. “The Toll Free line is 0800-555-5555. Anybody can call to give security tips and report any criminal activities in his or her area.” He said government would protect anybody who reports or gives useful information about criminal activities in his area.
