Residents Of Araromi-Ekiti Cry Out Over Dilapidated Road, Other Social AmenitiesResidents of Araromi-Ekiti in Ijero local government have again reminded the state government about the poor condition of the road in the area.In an interview, the Regent of the town, Princess Funmilayo Adesina said the road linking Iropora, Araromi, Epe and Ijero-Ekiti had become impassable for many years, thereby making it difficult for farmers to transport their goods to the markets.“Majority of our people are farmers, it is difficult to get vehicles that will help them to transport their farm produce to the markets for sale, Drivers are afraid of plying the road because it is too bad”.Princess Adesina explained that their vehicles usually get mechanical fault as a result of the bad state of the road, hence the need for urgent action.According to her, the rehabilitation of the road will boost the social and economic activities of the concerned communities. Also Speaking, the President Araromi Progressive Union, Mr. Thaddeus Agboola said some months ago they heard that government had awarded the road project, to their surprise, nothing has been done since. Mr Agboola appealed to Governor Kayode Fayemi to include the Iropora-Araromi-Epe-Ijero road as part of the projects to be handed over to the Governor-Elect, Mr. Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji. While appreciating the state government for some support they have received, Mr. Agboola called for urgent solution to issues preventing the supply of pipe borne water to Araromi and Epe-Ekiti communities, saying the two communities have not benefited from the new water project embarked upon by the state government.“We are not enjoying the major social amenities such as good road, potable water and power supply that can make life easier for residents of a community”. They however urged the state government to see to their plights in order for them to benefit from good governance like other towns in Ekiti state.

Actionaid Partners EDFHO, MDAs to End Poverty in Ekitiseeks improved government response to community demandsA social Justice Organization, Actionaid is working with the Environmental Development and Family Health Organization (EDFHO) to end poverty in Ekiti State.Action aid is a social justice organization working on gender equality and eradication of poverty as well as all forms of harmful traditional practices and discrimination against women.The organization has begun the rescue mission with three local governments which have been identified as the most affected by poverty in Ekiti State.Speaking with newsmen during a training in Ado Ekiti for MDAs, the Local Right Partnership Programme Advisor of Actionaid, Osamudiamen Owens-Akinwale highlighted the three council as Ilejemeje, Gbonyin and Ekiti west.According to her, seven communities have been selected under the councils in which the organization will work on between seven to ten years.In a paper presentation, the Partnership and Local Right Manager, for Actionaid Mr. Kehinde Arowosegbe said the objective of the programme is to achieve a just and equitable world devoid of poverty.He said the organization applies human rights based approach to development and mobilises the people to confront unequal power relations that exclude them from participating in decision making and limits their access to and control over resources and opportunities.His world: “We build the capacity of the people to hold government accountable and to also facilitate community initiated developmental projects that would enhance their standard of living.He said the major challenges of the organization has been the poor responses of government to the community demands and inadequate engagement with relevant MDAs by partners.Earlier, the Executive Director, Environmental Development and Family Health Organization (EDFHO) Sir, Olu Ogunrotimi sought the support of MDAs and relevant stakeholders to achieve the objective of ending poverty in the state.

Ekiti Tribunal: Segun Oni Cries Out, Says INEC Preventing Him Access To Inspect The Governorship Candidate in the just concluded June 18th, 2022 Governorship election in Ekiti State under the Social Democratic Party, SDP, has cried out that the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, is preventing his legal team from having access to inspect the election materials as ordered by the Election Tribunal sitting in Ado Ekiti.The Segun Oni Campaign Organization in it’s press statement made available to the Treasure Newspaper on Monday evening and signed by its Director of Media and Publicity, Mr Jackson Adebayo raised the alarm on the refusal of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to allow the legal team of the SDP Governorship Candidate have access to the materials used in the conduct of the June Governorship election in Ekiti State.The organization hinted that the Ekiti state office of INEC had on Monday denied the legal team access to the election materials including the capturing machine used in transmission of the results of the election, saying that INEC claimed all the materials are in the headquarters of the Commission.Mr. Jackson Adebayo, the SOCO Director of Media and Publicity accused the Electoral Commission of deliberately conniving with the All Progressive Congress (APC) to frustrate their efforts to retrieve the mandate stolen by the APC during the June Governorship election in Ekiti State.Adebayo in it’s statement asked why it has become the tradition of the Commission to transfer the materials used to conduct elections which is still being challenged at the tribunal to the headquarters, adding that the Commission is only playing to the gallery by this dangerous actions.“We are aware of the surreptitious romance between the APC and the Commission after it was discovered that the manipulation perpetrated to award victory to the APC candidate, Biodun Oyebanji has been fingered”.“We, however want to appeal to all well meaning Nigerians to call on INEC to release the materials demanded for inspection as provided by law which the Ekiti State election petition tribunal has appropriately ordered”.“We are still not comfortable with the claims by the Commission in Ado Ekiti that the materials are in the national headquarters as verifiable information has it that all the materials are in their store in Ado Ekiti office; so if that be the case why the deceit and delay if something is not under cover-up.”The organization however said that her legal team can’t be intimidated nor frustrated, adding that the commission should know that the issues goes beyond Asiwaju Segun Oni but things of concern to the generality of Ekiti people.But in a swift reaction by the Public Relations Officer of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, in Ekiti State, Mrs. Rolake Odebunmi, she confirmed and corroborated the earlier points raised by the Segun Oni Campaign Organization saying that it’s only like 50% of the materials being requested for that are in the custody of the State INEC.According to Mrs. Rolake Odebunmi, she said, that, “part of the materials, like 50% are not in the custody of the Ekiti State INEC”.Speaking further, Mrs. Rolake Odebunmi “pointed out that the Commission in Ekiti State has told SOCO to check for the ones available in the State but they refuse and said they don’t want it until they see the remaining of the materials”.Rolake revealed that the INEC Office in Ekiti can only made available the materials in there custody in the State.She went on to say that they have advised the Segun Oni Campaign Organization to write a letter to there headquarters office in Abuja for the release of those materials so they can inspect them.Rolake specifically emphasized that they have told the SOCO that they don’t have the complete materials in Ekiti State.She however revealed that the Commission has fixed another meeting for Monday next week so that the reply from there head office in Abuja will be given to enable them know further action on it.

Lawrence Adetola has charged those in positions of authority to be humble in their service to God and humanity.Rev. Father Adetola gave the charge in his Homily to mark the thanksgiving service of the 3rd anniversary of Professor Edward Olanipekun as the Vice Chancellor of Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti.At the service held at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Chaplaincy, Ekiti State University, the Clergyman noted that whoever God has favoured, is for a purpose and an opportunity to serve. He said further that those who God has favoured should not use the position to oppress their subordinates.Fr. Adetola observed that people are too desperate to get into positions of authority because of the entitlements attached to the office, rather than to offer quality service, adding that such desperados do not have anything tangible to offer.The Catholic priest commended Professor Olanipekun for having the mind of thanksgiving and for not forgetting that it is the mercy of God that made him the Vice Chancellor of Ekiti State University.In his remarks, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Edward Olanipekun emphasized the need to thank God in every situation, hence the need for the event.While commending the various staff unions in the university for their cooperation, he appealed to them to reconsider their position on the current nationwide strike action in the interest of Ekiti State University, being a State institution with its own peculiarities.Speaking briefly before his benediction, the Catholic Bishop of Ekiti Diocese, Bishop Felix Ajakaye prayed for the early resolution of the ongoing ASUU strike.He urged ASUU to restrategize in view of the fact that the union is negotiating with a seemingly deaf and dumb government.Dignitaries at the service included the Secretary to the State Government, Mr Foluso Daramola, Permanent Secretaries, representatives of the Ewi of Ado Ekiti, Principal Officers and other senior officials of the university.
